Breakage

Thin, breaking ends. Mine, specifically.

October 2026 · about a 4-minute read

I didn't notice my ends giving up on one specific day. I noticed it in photos: thin, see-through ends. The Nov 2020 photo on my receipts page shows exactly where it was.

What thin, breaking ends usually are

I'm not a doctor and this isn't a diagnosis page. But the common reasons ends go thin and snap: dryness, heat, rough brushing, tight styles, and skipping trims. For a lot of women it's gradual — you don't lose hair in clumps, the ends just get thinner and shorter year by year.

One honest flag before anything else: if your shedding came on suddenly, comes out in patches, or your scalp hurts or flakes badly — that's a doctor visit, not a shampoo. Go rule out the medical stuff first. This page is for the slow, boring kind of breakage. Mine.

What I did about it: nothing, for years

That's the whole before. No routine, barely conditioner. The 2020 photo is what "nothing" looks like.

Then the routine

Feb 2024 I started washing my hair like I meant it. The order: oil the night before wash day. Shampoo and conditioner built for damaged hair. Split-end mender on the ends, leave-in after. And on my part — a serum, on the scalp, twice a day. That last one is for my part and hairline. The rest keeps the hair I have from breaking off.

Most weeks. Not all of them. I was not consistent and it still worked.

What happened

Breakage stopped first — ends making it to the next trim instead of splitting off. Then, in early October, about a year into Bond IQ and a few weeks into the serum, my hairline looked fuller to me when the light hit it. I took photos the day I noticed and put them in the hairline post — hold your phone up and look.

My results: Bond IQ about twice a week for about a year, plus the IR Clinical serum on my part twice a day since late September. No filters, no edits.

I can't hand that to one bottle. The fuller look showed up on the whole system, used mostly-consistently for a long time. Anyone who tells you one product changed their hair in six weeks is selling harder than I am.

If your ends look like my 2020 photo

Start with the routine, not a miracle product. Everything I use is on my shelf, in order. And if you're not sure where to start, ask me — it's free, and I'll tell you honestly, including "see a doctor first" if that's the real answer.

Do thin, breaking ends recover?

Mine did, slowly, on a consistent routine: stronger ends with less breakage, and about a year into Bond IQ and a few weeks into the serum, my hairline looks fuller. Sudden or patchy loss is a different animal: doctor first.

How long until you saw anything?

Less breakage about a year into Bond IQ. The fuller look at my hairline took about a year.

What exactly do you use?

The full routine, in order, is on my shelf page.

Do I have to be consistent every single day?

I wasn't. Most weeks, not all. It still showed.

Everything I use is on my shelf.

In the order I use it. Not sure where to start? Tell me what's going on with your hair.
