Questions I get in DMs

Is VIP worth it?

The fine print, in plain words, from someone who pays for it. Then a two-minute way to decide for yourself instead of taking my word for it.

October 2026 ยท about a 3-minute read

the short answer If you'd reorder more than once this year, VIP is cheaper. If you're buying one bottle to see if you like it, buy retail. That's the whole decision. The rest of this page is the fine print so you can check me. @heykayandco

I get this question more than any other, and the reason is that VIP sounds like a membership and people have been burned by memberships. Fair. So here is exactly what it is, exactly what it costs, and how to get out of it, before you decide anything.

The fine print, because you'd find it anyway

Signup$10. Once. Not yearly.
First order$84 or more.
FlexshipOne more order you set up for later. Also $84 or more. You pick what's in it and when it ships, every 30 or 60 days.
Changing itMove the date, swap the products, pause it, or cancel it yourself from your account. No phone call.
Returns30 days on anything.
Don't want VIP?Buy retail. Same link, skip the signup.

The thing people miss is the Flexship. It isn't a surprise charge if you know it's there, and it isn't a surprise charge if you move it. It is a surprise charge if you forget about it, so set a reminder the day you sign up. That's the only trap on this page, and now you know where it is.

Work it out in two minutes

VIP or retail, for you specifically

  1. Open the product pages for the two or three things you'd actually buy. The shelf links straight to each one.
  2. On each page, both prices are shown: VIP and retail. Write down the difference for each product.
  3. Add the differences together. That's what VIP saves you per order.
  4. Multiply by how many times a year you'd honestly reorder.

If that number is more than $10, VIP pays for itself and then keeps saving. If it isn't, retail. There is no third answer.

For me it was never close, because the wash day routine is the same four bottles every time and I run out of them on a schedule. I set the Flexship to the products I was going to buy anyway and stopped thinking about it.

When I'd tell you to skip VIP

You're testing one thing

If you want to try the oil or the dry shampoo and see what your hair does, buy it retail. Decide about VIP after you've used it for a month.

You know you won't check the date

If a reminder on your phone isn't going to happen, the Flexship will eventually ship when you weren't ready. Retail costs more per bottle and has no calendar.

When VIP is the obvious call

You already know which products you're using, you'd reorder two or more times a year, and you can set one reminder. That's most people who've been using the same routine for a while, and it's where the savings add up without you doing anything.

If you're not sure which products that would be, that's the question to answer first, and it's the one I'm happy to help with. Tell me your hair type and what's bugging you and I'll build the list.

Not sure which three to start with?

DM me HEYKAY on Instagram. Tell me your hair type and what's going on, and I'll build the cart, VIP or retail, whichever the math says.

Questions

What does VIP cost?

$10 to sign up, once. First order $84 or more. One Flexship set up for later, also $84 or more.

What is a Flexship?

A future order you set up when you join. You pick what's in it and when it ships, every 30 or 60 days. Change it from your account whenever you want.

Can I cancel it myself?

Yes. Move it, pause it, or cancel it from your account. No phone call. 30-day returns on anything.

Do I have to join VIP to buy?

No. Every link on my shelf works retail. Same link, skip the signup.

Is VIP or retail cheaper?

Depends how often you reorder. Compare the two prices on the products you'd buy, multiply the difference by your reorders per year, and see if it beats $10.
