Gloss Mode Dry Oil: my honest review

October 2026 Β· about a 2-minute read

The short answer

My most-used product. A few drops on the ends, that's the whole job β€” shine, no tangles, no grease. It's the finisher that makes day 3, 4, and 5 hair look like day 1. It will not repair damage, and I only use the dry oil from this line (I haven't tried the rest of the wash system altogether... yet πŸ˜‰).

What it actually is

A lightweight dry oil (MONAT calls it Gloss Modeβ„’ Glow Drops) made to add shine and smoothness without the heaviness of a traditional oil. "Dry" oil means it absorbs instead of sitting on the strand β€” which matters enormously if your hair is fine, because heavy oils are how fine hair ends up flat and greasy by noon.

My experience, with receipts

What I can't promise you

No oil repairs damage β€” not this one, not anyone's. Oils reduce friction, slow water loss, and make hair look and behave healthier; they don't rebuild broken structure (my fact-check page covers the difference). If your ends are truly fried, this makes them look better while you deal with the real fix: trims and a repair-focused wash.

Also: I can only vouch for the dry oil. I haven't tried the rest of the wash system altogether yet, so you won't catch me reviewing it.

Who it's for

Anyone stretching wash days, fine hair that heavy oils flatten, long hair that tangles in weather, ends that look dull by day 3. It pairs with whatever you wash with β€” for me that's IR Clinical or Bond IQ.
